Heavy times, heavy prayers. Thank you.
The last few days have been incredibly stressful...you can imagine. We have several "high risk" family members we have been trying and trying to get out, and man, it's just not happening. If the Lord does not miraculously open a door for MANY people in the North to get back to their home countries and medical care that some of them would definitely need in case of illness...then it's not opening.
Right now, we are locked down with the Edlers and their three kiddos, Ms. Pam and Jonas on campus, so our tables have been full and our children have been busy inventing every game under the sun. If you are on lock-down, the Emmaus campus is a great place to be.
When there is NO notice of flights ending, it means lots of people who should have gone are here. We love and are loving on these people. Please pray with them, for and with us. All that can be done from our side has been done.
Meanwhile, we have been far busier than we expected! Without precious Gertha, well, all the cooking from scratch, handwashing continual streams of dishes, daily laundry and having to hang every single item out on the line and all back in...homeschool...Ben...it's a lot just to keep afloat, isn't it!! Time marches on, and as Matt continues to prep here for new leadership, he's also stepping more and more into his role at Wesley. We've also been working lots on "the plan"...how to finish this semester well, when that might be, how to best serve our staff and students in this....you know, making "plans" with no idea about what will be possible :)
Dear Leme and Geusica are prepared for the birth of their first baby miracle any day...my heart is continually with them...I never imagined I wouldn't be able to be there for them, but we sure are on the phone daily! Please be praying for them with me!
Everyone keeping their distance is very challenging for this loving community (where a kiss on the cheek greetings is usually always a must!), but everyone is trying, and air kissing. There are still very few confirmed cases of coronavirus, but there is also almost no testing available, if any, so we're not really sure. With no respirators in the entire North of Haiti, we continue to pray for many miracles of protection and healing.
Matt started sharing five minute devotionals today on Emmaus' Facebook page for our discouraged students sitting at home across the island today, and I'm thankful for some opportunities in this minimal media culture to continue to lift one another up and to preach the Gospel.
Helping the girls work through this has been a precious ministry...This was not how we had told them transition would be, and they are learning and growing right along with us. We come back, over and over, to this: The Lord has the day and the future and the past. The Lord has His people in His hand. We can trust Him with tomorrow and we can do today the best we can, for His glory. All the many questions, we will trust Him, for He knows.
I'm thankful for His presence. We are thankful for your prayers! We are praying, praying for you.
Stand firm, live generous, and trust Him with us.
