prayers for the doctor side of daddy

Please be praying with me today for Matt!

He's safely arrived at the Society for Biblical Literature annual conference in San Diego, which draws between 8,000-10,000 Bible scholars from around the globe....that is a LOT of Matt-minded people!

I'm going to brag a quick second and say that SBL reaching out to him almost a year ago and asking him to present his work on the Discourse Function of Linguistic Parallelism in Biblical Hebrew Poetry is a really big deal.  If you could thrive under that lecture, well, you are probably reading this from the conference, let's face it :)

Needless to say, we are all incredibly proud of him representing Emmaus and our family and most, representing the Lord we love.  His presentation is this afternoon, and as he presents to probably the most intimidating audience he could face, please be praying with me for Matt's utmost for His highest and for iron to be sharpened and faith to be strengthened.

I am so blessed to support God at work through Matt, and it always blows my mind to see how DIVERSE the opportunities and mission fields are that God keeps using him on.  Thank you for your prayers!

Here are his details:

What is the Society of Biblical Literature? The Society of Biblical Literature is a membership organization with over 8000 scholar and the oldest and largest learned society devoted to the critical investigation of the Bible from a variety of academic disciplines.
The SBL meets annually. This year the annual meeting is being held in San Diego, California November 23–26.
What is Dr. Matt Ayars doing there? He is presenting a paper titled: “The Discourse Function of Linguistic Parallelism in Biblical Hebrew Poetry.”
Dr. Ayars says, "SBL is divided up into various disciplines and units. This year the Hebrew Linguistics and Hebrew Poetry Units are combining for a special session that considers the interfacing of linguistics and poetry (see attachment). This is precisely the area of my PhD research as released in my book The Shape of Hebrew Poetry: Exploring the Discourse Function of Linguistic Parallelism in the Egyptian Hallel. As my work is one of the more recent studies centered in the context of linguistics and poetry, the chair of this combined unit sent me a special invitation to present a paper on my research. I’m presenting a paper on foregrounding and structural cohesion as the dual rhetorical function of linguistic parallelism in Hebrew poetry."
