without Matt.

Being in Haiti with Matt is very different than being in Haiti without Matt.

I know it drives Matt nuts that everyone always "needs" him all the time, but the reality is...well, he just always seems to know how to do EVERYTHING.  Easily.  He always "knows a guy" or "finds a way" or manages to change peoples minds or enters into a hard conflict and emerges with free drinks and old ladies kissing him.  I'm not joking.

So when he's gone, everyone assumes that Madame Matt is the next best thing, and that I also can somehow figure out how to do everything.  This is NOT true.

Yesterday, that meant a 20 minute conversation in French-Creole with the paint guy about WHY sending us electric blue paint (and charging us $130 USD for it) was NOT ok when we ordered pale green simply because they didn't HAVE the pale green paint dye.  "It's practically the same!" he kept insisting.   "Everyone sees it's a beautiful color!"

Where was Matt when I needed him?  Stuck at the DC airport for over 24 hours due to absurd weather.

This morning at 5:20 am, Lily was wide awake and stoked about her upcoming day at the Citadel.  At 7:00, a bunch of guys showed up wanting some kind of tools.  At 7:45 (when I was in the shower) Sofie announced that there was some guy that looked like grandpa at the door who needed Pastor Matt.  I STILL don't know who that was...let me know if it was you.

Now, Sofie is playing under my desk while student after student come by to catch up and to ask questions about courses...changes....grade sheets....um.  All I know is which Visiting Professors come in Saturday, and how much registered students owe.

Add in bedtime tears over daddy every single night and a team that Matt would be FAR more fun for and the vomit thing.

Sign us up as three more people who are always needing Matt all the time :)  We do appreciate others even more when they're gone, don't we!   Praying for productive and edifying board meetings...and that everyone will be able to GET to Sabetha soon!
