cutting through the chaos

Today was a great day.  Another day of just what He knew we needed, and the grateful reminder that "my God will supply your every need" means our every need.  Even that for rest.
The day started out with a visit from Gertha and "Baby Thaliya".  Thaliya is now bigger than Sofie, but Sof continues to follow her around, hold her hand, give her all her toys, and say, "I wuv you, Baby Thaliya!"  We were all thrilled to see them both healthy and happy and thrilled to have them back in our lives. These kids grow up too fast!
Then we had a bunch of errands to run in town, but have been promising the girls all week we'd end up at the pool.  Which. They. Loved.
No work, no visitors, no distractions, no cooking, no cleaning, just beautiful weather, focused family time, and the pool!
which they loved just a little bit...

ok, we all loved.

We then headed back home.  This is where you buy...all this stuff.
And this is how you buy ice in a country without refrigeration.  The ice truck drops of two or three blocks to each vendor, and then grumpy dude hides all the ice blocks under that sawdust, to make it last longer, and when you come around looking for some, he'll get you a "chip off the ole' block" and rinse it off.
Driving home through the busy streets of Haiti, we realized that we really have come to love this country He brought us to.  So much that once looked like chaos and turmoil has come to look like beautiful LIFE.

When you cut through the crowds and focus, you see naked little ones dumping water on each other's heads and running, squealing, old ladies in the market talking each other's ears off, men gathered around the radio, listening and ranting at the same time, a million conversations and smiles and exchanges taking place, life happening all around you, all simultaneously, in some kind of organized beautiful chaos.
That must mean that our crazy chaotic selves, our victories and burdens, our gifts and shortcomings, our sweet aromas and our pungent regrets, all our pasts, our presents, or futures, can be cut through and made beautiful in His sight...the only one that matters.
