Now, don't get all upset. We have invited you a hundred times! And I promise, if you come, we will take you here...
On Fat Tuesday, with millions of people in town, no classes and eight children under 8, an adventure away from town made for the perfect morning.
I know I've said it before, but we live in a BEAUTIFUL country. To get to the bay, we drove all through dozens of little communities, with all of the diversity and culture that Haiti brings to the table.
Tin houses. Gorgeous houses. Huge schools.
Tent schools. Terrible roads. Beautiful roads.
People on the way to Carnival. People on the way to church.
Small towns. Huge fields.
Men working rice fields, women wringing laundry.
Stretches of ocean. Miles of mountains.
Haiti.
chocolate pods, and finally...
ChouChou Bay (Shoe Shoe Bay)
Gorgeous beach. Flawless sands. Clear water. Great waves.
and a million friends to be made!
Great time with neighbors, students and visitors, and the ocean kayak was perfect for riding the waves. Despite the five-foot shark sighting (complete with video) at Labadee last week, the rockless, grassless bottom of the bay seemed to contain NO fish, which gave us some peace of mind.
There was a lot of ugliness and darkness happening in Haiti today.
But when you look out the window to this, you remember. That's just man. That's just us. Uglying stuff up. Chasing after darkness. Pursuing our carnal instead of His heart. Doing what we want, going with our whims, instead of accepting what He has, walking close to Him.
It is still beautiful, His work. He is still God.
And He's obviously not finished.
