BAM

“Jesus’ whole life and mission involve accepting powerlessness and revealing in this powerlessness the limitlessness of God’s love.

Here we see what compassion means.

It is not bending toward the underprivileged from a privileged position; it is not a reaching out from on high to those who are less fortunate below; it is not a gesture of sympathy or pity for those who fail to make it in the upward pull.

On the contrary, compassion means going directly to those people and places where suffering is most acute and building a home there.”

- Henri Nouwen

This makes me excited.

Here's why:  I GUARANTEE that this season, that right now, WHEREVER you are, we are, there is a place of acute suffering.

Who comes to your mind when I say that?  What family?  What friend?  What co-worker?  What Angel-Tree name or person you struggle to forgive or let-everyone-down ex-friend?

We have, each of us, today, the opportunity to make a home in places of suffering.  Whether we're 14 or 94, whether we have money or don't, whether we know the whole story or just have an inkling.

Which means this Christmas, we have a chance at true compassion.

Praise the Lord.

Let's DO IT.
