I got a beautiful note in the mail last week with some money for me to carry into Haiti and give away to some friends and family who are dearly needing it. My friend wrote, "When I prayed about how much to send to our brothers and sisters, I had a figure in mind and then hesitated. Yesterday, I got a check in the mail, the same amount I felt led to send, so here it is! Sometimes we give 10% and sometimes we give 90%, just so we obey."
I am really touched by this statement of faith.
We're just obeying. Sometimes it's costing 10%. Sometimes it's costing a whole lot more, sometimes everything. But how can we be all about the cost when we cost Him His life? His only son?
We can't be about the cost. Can't even be cost counters, cost considerers, cost concerned. We're about "just so we obey."
And He takes those uncounted, abandoned costs and does PRICELESS things.
I love that. And I love that the amount she gave won't equal the amount received by people. What will be received won't be twenty dollars or a hundred. What will be received will be "just what we needed", it will be "exactly the right time"...it will be "the encouragement our family has been needing" or "God's perfect provision."
What a sacred thought, what God can do with a little obedience.
