As I was pouring Matt his coffee this morning, we realized that he thought today was Thursday, and it was with great joy he stood corrected. No matter how many beautiful things come packed in a week, sometimes you are still very glad when it is drawing to a close.
Two master's classes, four undergrad classes, lots of new people on our team heading into their first school year, lots of new students, having to let a staff member go, readjusting to Mom being back at work every day, major work happening on the new classroom building, and having to let the cat go have all made for a busy week, and an emotional one on the home front.
Despite having a healthy outlook on the whole thing, Lily is just struggling over the loss of her friend. That cat was her continual companion, sitting on her chest every afternoon after school, reading all her books with her, sleeping on her bed and in general just being her happy place. We have had a lot of tears the past several days despite Nora saying over and over that Caspian is just hiding under her crib. Thank you for your sweet prayers over our hurting girlie.
Both these precious ones cried themselves to sleep on our bed last night...one for Matt to carry back to bed and one for me.
Sofie continues to be such a constantly loving sister for Ben, reading him books, hauling him all over the place, and oftentimes playing house with him as the real live baby doll....when she's not playing Nora's favorite game, School. With a donut school bus.
Sarah's mom is taking one of the master's classes this week, so she's gotten lots of good time with Ben this week, too.
God knows.
The headers were poured this week, and the walls are flying up this morning! Most of our team has been sick, so I've been surprised how much has still been happening despite Phil on antibiotics and Rick having a horrific cough.
Ben's awake more and more and has starting cooing and grinning and altogether being continually adorable.
Finally, I spent some good time yesterday in a few classes and will spend some more time today...I love-love-love having our students back, and have some great testimonies to share with you from their summers of NOT vacation. Please continue praying for our first year students...learning and living at Emmaus is VERY different than the environments most of them are coming from, and it's a huge adjustment.
On Tuesday night Rick mentioned that there had been a student crying outside of the library. Matt starting calling around, and found out from our new Resident Director of the men's dorm that he was a first year student, just totally overwhelmed, and it reminded me how I felt my first week of college! Thankfully, Rick also talked about how two older students were comforting him and encouraging him, and I'm so thankful for the community we have here and for the tradition of hemming in family for ministry, not adding clients for business.
We are not anyone's only Hope...He is, and His Kingdom does not depend upon EBS or upon me. It depends upon Christ at work THROUGH us, strong in our weakness, the Rock of our salvation.
We just gotta be faithful.
