faithful

Today I sat on the porch while the kiddos ate popsicles I didn't make from scratch (thank you, America) and called our house. Guesica picked up and flew off the hinge in Creole, throwing in a few focused English phrases..."I LOVE you."

After we chatted for a long time, she handed the phone to Gertha, and we all passed the phone around, even Ben lighting up and chattering in all the words he knows.

The market, due to "the virus" that everyone continues to hear about but nobody sees, is closed four days a week, so extra crowded the other three.  Parents and students are facing the reality that after missing months of classes due to political turmoil in the fall, and now missing months more...the year has been lost.

It kills Gertha, whose mama could barely keep a roof over their heads and was unable to also pay for expensive education, to have Thaliya home. It was the one thing she knew and has worked for since she was a little girl at home...HER daughter, one day, would be in school.

But instead Sofie got to chat with her, too...for she is not.

Our staff and students and babies are well...just apart, and continuing to lead churches and communities that are confused, that are frustrated, that are broken on broken.

Haiti continues to have NO flights/NO passengers in...none since the day the president closed the country a week before we left.

They are all worried about us, heavens, the news in Haiti grim about America.

I am thankful our loved ones are loving on our loved ones. I loved hearing these fierce, joyful ladies together, and eating around our table.

With furniture stores closed and online furniture SO far behind on shipping...that table continues to be our only table :)

We are homeschooling our hearts out, Nikki and I, enjoying a lot of reading of old books from my childhood finally brought out of storage, doing crafts from the supplies my thoughtful sister sent us, getting around to teaching the girls a few basics until can get them going on piano lessons, and spending hours every day outside. Matt's been working long days at Wesley, teaching online there and at Asbury, working with our Haiti and Wesley team, meetings...emails...

The best thing I've done the last days was ask for your letters. I have been humbled through them....reminders of how challenging this season is in all kinds of corners, being inspired by attitudes of faith, touched by your encouragement, overjoyed to share snippets with the kids. We've even gotten a letter or two from family we've never met, and how humbling to make connections with prayer warriors and fellow Christ-followers, even now.  Thank you for taking the time and reminding me...truly.

As we're sifting through lots of things...as we're sifted...He is faithful.
