We set out on a new adventure today to celebrate Uncle Don and to enjoy more of Haiti!
Friday was his birthday...
and we had a lovely dinner...
and gave him a happy birthday kitten :)
And then today we headed out to find the deserted island known as Rat Island!
Which thankfully, had no rats :)
The hour long boat ride there was GORGEOUS.
The bay and warf is only 3 minutes drive from campus, and the water was SO calm today.
Lily, of course, was in seventh heaven, and Maxi had never been to Rat Island, either!
There she is!
We didn't know what we'd find, but never expected to find so many shells!
After exploring a bit, all the fishermen coming in from sea stopped by to see if they could make a sale.
We passed on the ginormous lobsters.
I love the homemade sails of the fishing boats!
We finally settled on a huge crab and a handful of fish to follow our PB&J.
Cooking them is part of the deal, and it was so fun to watch him clean, cut and scale the fish...all with nothing but the leg of one of the crabs.
and on an old checkerboard, nonetheless.
Lily would not have minded BEING deserted on the deserted island one bit.
Then, he cooked the crab on a fire and the fish on the coals, the touch shell of the crab cooking the meat like a pot.
Using a boogie board as our plate, everyone dug into the fish and crab...then Phil and Lily picked everything clean! (Barb, if you had been there, you would have been right there with them!)
More ginormous lobster!
A very pretty and peaceful day.
heading back to the pier...thankful for such a beautiful country, for good family to enjoy it with, for Uncle Don, and for a day away!
