Yesterday Matt went town and brought our neighbors back...and we are so glad.
It has been such a joy to be reunited with our community, with Granny and Maxi and Junel and Abel and Noel and Gertha and Junior and so many others...but at the end of the day, they all go home. Having community to LIVE with is so sweet, and after spending every day together for 9 months, we sure missed the Heckmans the last 2!
At the end of the day, there are very few people, American and Haitian alike, who can truly understand living and working in Haiti as foreigners, whirlwind visiting your home country of America to find support and to catch up with friends and family, jumping back into life in Haiti again. Living in your van. Trying to diligently parent your kids well in the midst. All of the emotion.
All chattering full speed ahead last night over pizza--of how McDonald's isn't really as good as you remember it being, about the weather, about the cultures, about the churches, about family and friends, about what is beautiful and what is hard, about how hard it was to leave family and friends and about how good it is to be home--was so nice!
Please keep praying for all of us as we continue to transition and settle back in, and as we prepare for a team of 14 to join us Friday from New Jersey!
Matt and Phil have been in the generator house since 7:30, trying to find the problem(s) and working to find a solution. Lily and Haylie are washing the dogs, and we're all prepping for the team and prepping for a big new year!
We've been interviewing new students daily, doing final sorts through summer affairs, preparing for visiting professors and new courses, registering the girls at school, etc. We are truly excited about some of the new students coming through our doors and even more so to hear some of the stories coming from current students about mission work done this summer. It has been very busy, but I have said NO to several things and asked for help for several, too :) It's going to be a good year!
