I love Christmas week :) Despite all the exams pending, financial pressures to pay off the semester and stresses of preparing Christmas programing in their churches, the students get INSANELY excited about Coke drinking competitions, musical chairs, egg races, water games, soccer matches, Bible competitions and talent shows.
This year is especially exciting because a friend from home sent us a big box of brand new tennis shoes, which are like gold in Haiti (as you can see, Lorma was playing soccer yesterday in his loafers, and many others were playing one-shoe-d.) The shoes have all been bagged up with other gifts and are serving as the prizes, and oh man, everyone is stoked.
Lily thought the egg races were downright hilarious...she kept clasping her hands over her mouth and squealing, "THEY ARE BEING SO SILLY!"
The best part was that no one could keep from laughing long enough to keep the spoons in their mouths, despite "hours" of pre-game "training."
Then, 2nd year slaughtered 4th year in the soccer match (fourth year was just too old, I'm afraid :), and move on to the championship round Wednesday.
Life in Haiti hasn't been easy...not for Haitians nor for us. But it is a very rare day that passes that I don't feel incredibly blessed to be living with our Haitian brothers and sisters, trying to do His work the very best that we can.
Sharing this difficult and beautiful life with Lily and Sofie and Matt will always been one of the joys of my life.
joy is what I see. We had a few people come to talk to our church about their mission trip to Zimbabwe to the Eden's Children Home. Someone told them that he felt badly for us Westerners/Americans because we had to choose each day to rely on God, but they had no choice. So true. I think the same of you.
