Matt is off again, this time preaching 1-2 times each day for 7 days a few hours from here. Not too far, but a little too far to come home between preaching sessions, every day at 11 am and 6:30 pm. Some neighbors had an unexpected trip to Alabama for a sudden death in the family, so we've had a few extra kiddos for the weekend, a whole lotta laundry, and lots of mom and dad Saturday projects...vacuuming, cleaning, cutting the grass and all these sweet kiddos.
There were a few moments today I thought I might need to go hide in my closet, but the Lord was my friend, gave me little hints of stability and His grace throughout the chocolate chip pancakes and moody pre-teens and dramatic 5-year olds, even giving me "quiet" moments like cutting the grass and running the vacuum to pray.
I have a few dear ones especially heavy these days, and have found myself praying for friends in Haiti and some friends in North Carolina in and out all day. Haiti, so heavy on our hearts and stomachs. These dear ones, so anxious and helpless I am to come alongside. I am trusting, trusting, that the Mighty One is coming alongside even NOW...I sure am nagging Him about it.
Tonight we had Greek with some neighbors (nothing like telling your friends you'll be over at 6 with six kids...but needing the adult companionship too much to politely cancel :)
I put a plug on Facebook a few days ago regarding the book, "Celebration of Discipline" by Richard Foster and I just want to echo that here. I needed this book again, right now, and chances are you do, too!
If you've been feeling stuck, stagnant, or swept away lately, this powerful and practical book urges us back towards some of the spiritual disciplines that shape us...and that He often uses to fill us!
I've been working through one discipline -- one chapter -- a day, and it's just ushered in a time of sharpening and being more deliberate. I need more of HIS space in my life...and I'm betting you do, too.
