Whew!
Our goodbyes were as hard as we thought they'd be...Gertha in tears is just gonna get me every time, and a few crying toddlers had Sofie and Lily in waterworks.
Poor TiLou had a weepy drive to the airport, dear man. He didn't know WHAT to do or say :)
We talked about all the hards of coming and going, of living with our hearts full in many places, and by the time we got the airport, everyone had agreed...It is better to live in many places with much family then to give some of them up.
After such, such a long flight day, we got through customs by 7 pm, and then drove until 11:30, spent the night at a hotel, and drove the next 8 hours yesterday. Our dear neighbor passed away yesterday morning during our drive, and I'm thankful we are home in time to help and be with Mr. Henry :(
By the time we got in at 7:00, we were wiped...and everyone was so happy to see dad! Sara Douglas brought us Nigerian dinner and was just such a gift. There are just people who get it, and SD does...and had us eating chicken, rice and peanut sauce for dinner last night, breakfast this morning AND lunch today :)
We are going to rest and debrief...in a few days.
But today was laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning, vacuuming, unpacking and getting ready for the board member coming in tonight, the board wives brunch tomorrow morning, school for the girls tomorrow, Sofie's gymnastics evaluation at 3, the alumni banquet tomorrow night, and graduation on Saturday morning...clothes clean and ironed for all those things, lunches packed, guest room clean...you get the picture.
Man alive.
THIS is what we were rushing back for, and we MADE it.
If He helped us get from Mississippi to the mountains of Haiti, to the Dominican, to Florida and home again, then He can help us do these next few days...one hour at a time, with more dear people, some I've been still waiting to meet, and more powerful stories I can't wait to hear.
Oh Benny pulling his luggage. What a big boy!
ReplyDeleteWe tried an "everyone is responsible for their own things" approach this trip. Went REALLY well. Sofie returned with ONE whole shoe, (and went with six) and we lost three pairs of goggles, a hat, five toy cars and three books.
